TRIBUTE TO BEIRUT’S LOST BALCONIES

wael srouji

This project is a proposal of reviving Beirut’s lost outdoor spaces through a café. These outdoor spaces are designed as intriguing seating zones There are 4 different typologies of outdoor enclosures across multiple levels: courtyard, modular loggias, rooftop terraces and cantilevering balconies. Each spatially designed to produce certain intimate sensations. Analogous to Muller House, the spaces in this café are accessed through different paths and stairs, creating visual layering between the levels: the movement through the spaces creates a series of moments during which allows visual continuity across the voids and openings.
