DYNAMIC URBAN FRAME

charles abi chahine

Beyond the human toll, the massive explosion devastated the city itself, leaving the historical streets of Gemmayze and mar Mkhayel in shambles. Following the blast, new systems are reconfiguring the traditional Lebanese houses to meet todays need. The project is based on a new type of structure, enabling freedom in the configuration of the spaces by removing or extending slabs, keeping the structural element intact and maintaining the visual limit of the neighborhood intact. Following the idea of the superstructure system, the steel columns act as a frame, to which platforms, stairs, bridges and other elements can be added.
