The machine is derived from the unit which is based on a transcendental upward movement created by the split levels as the precedent Kanchanjunga apartments by Charles Correa. The orphanage unit was developed with the idea of creating different spaces with varying functions, all connected through interstitial spaces which not only serve to move from one location to another, but also becoming unique spaces in and of themselves. The sizes of the apertures were dictated by the degree of privacy each space demanded with a great emphasis on creating a large central void that would serve to visually connect not only the indoors to the outdoors, but also the lower more public spaces to the upper private living quarters. The machine aims to enhance the connectivity between the different units on the interior level and blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, further reinforcing the idea of connectivity.
