INTERLOCKING SPACES

yasmeen ghaddar

The project consists of a pedestrian pathway integrating several functions of the program and  interlocking the two communities on each side of the road. These volumes create interactions between people inside and the passersby, an intersection between the internal and the external, consisting of timber masses that could be reassembled in various ways on the bridge. The workshop and the studio are an extension to the art galleries and museums present in Achrafieh,  providing cultural/artistic opportunities for all people; exhibition spaces and workshops form the main functions of the program, with indoor and outdoor café spaces. In terms of structure, the bridge acts as one huge beam supported by vertical elements on each plot and a floor-to-ceiling truss system all along; a diagonal light structure embedded in the walls of each unit works in tension to support the cantilevered units.
