CERES

Christina Jane Tanios   Clara Boustany

Ceres is the ancient roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships.
Two of several marginalized social groups in Lebanon are the female obese and senior citizens. The site is located in Gemmayze, Beirut. In the past, it was a farming land where families would come together, profiting from their harvest while making a living. As a reference to this successful history of the area, we propose an urban farming hub for our two social groups- and not only: The plot is in a lively neighborhood were people coexist and make use of its stairs and streets.
The concept revolves around creating 3 interconnected spaces:
1. Housing for the seniors with agricultural areas.
2. A “Catalysts” area with professional specialists to help both groups.
3. And a public retail space that uses the produce from the urban farming areas to create a market for the whole neighborhood
