CO-LIVING 03

lynn jaroudi

The project is a co-living space for foreign students in Bachoura district in Beirut, Lebanon. Each floor is divided into four separate apartments and each apartment rests on a different level.  To acknowledge the problematic of density in Beirut, there are as many units as possible but at the same time each unit has its own privacy.  What connects these apartments are two main voids where most of the interaction happens. The staircases and landings become more than just methods of circulation: They are transformed into a generating piece of design that connects all the project together. They become spaces for interaction either by visual or physical connections. Furthermore, each apartment has a staircase leading to it. This staircase becomes a major part in the configuration of the space, a part of the apartment, acting as a “center piece”, with the rest of the space designed accordingly.
