ARCH 331

DESIGN III

This studio builds upon and extends the theoretical knowledge gained in the foundation studios through a concrete application of conceptual and perceptual analysis to design problems of small and medium scale, and the exploration of the limits and means of translating concepts into architectural form. This studio focuses on the representation of ideas, specifically stressing the importance of hand drawing and model making as design tools.

The studio continues the elaboration of projects based on investigations of specific theoretical themes, concentrating on medium scale public projects. The studio initiates students to the analysis of canonical works as a basic tool in the design process. The studio continues to emphasize the use of manual representational techniques in translating ideas into drawings and models.
