SPACE 101: FROM BASICS TO SKILLFULNESS
This studio is an introduction of the issues of body, form and space in all its aspects through the exploration of design projects.
The studio started with three exercises exploring the basic elements of a space: “the ground, the wall and the roof”. Each exercise was divided into an exploration phase and a project where students had to create a space using solely the basic element explored.
The second part of the studio culminated in a medium scale project, a “Community library” where students had to put their previous knowledge and exploration of the basic elements into practice in a realistic project in a given site.
Special care was taken to introduce and familiarize the students with basic constituents of a space, scale and proportion. In the different exercises students were learning how to compose and create a space that is proportionate, with a relevant and rich spatial quality.
