The emphasis of the studio is to familiarize students with residential projects by focusing on the notion of home and what it means to design client(s) most personal spaces. The explosion that hit Beirut on August 4 left many families without home. Many houses and buildings are partially or fully damaged. The studio invites students into rethinking the residence within one of the affected buildings. Students are expected to design through narratives by understanding users’ preferences and needs, balanced with space functionality, design basics, planning, materials and elements, furniture, textiles, lighting and colors. The design process will start with a broad understanding of the site, the users, and the functions. By the end of the semester, students will design and detail 3 main spaces within their projects.
