Arab Image Foundation, founded in 1997, collects, studies and preserves photographs from the Middle East and North Africa. Similarly, the aim is to preserve the Palace and create workspace, exhibition and workshop areas. Derived from the idea that cameras were originally formed from the shape of boxes, the interior spaces are first simplified into boxes. The exhibition area consists of stacked boxes with stairs allowing the visits to circulate in the space. The design and circulation of the exhibition area with the surrounding windows enables the visitors to experience a play of light and shadow, implementing another element of photography. Moreover, the numerous existing windows in the spaces permits the ideas of to see and be seen, by framing the people and their movements. The design grants the visitors to truly appreciate the essence of photography as well as the beauty of Qasr Chahine, that on its own a photograph worth capturing.
