A columbarium where 500 niches are exhibited on an elevated slab to honor the dead. The circulation surrounds the site overlooking nature and the graves. Moreover, accessibility is restricted by ramps: one accessing the columbarium, another leading to a multipurpose hall, a candle lighting space, and bathrooms. A third ramp connects the columbarium with the underground functions. Introducing natural light to the underground is due to the presence of the ramps that surround the site. Following Latvian cultural beliefs of not mixing the dead and the living, the element of water surrounding the site at ground level keeps the two entities separated. Similarly, the bathroom separates the candle lighting and multipurpose hall. Benches facing the site following the columbarium walls enhance the idea of exhibiting the niches.
