COMBINED THRESHOLDS

jana salhab

Defining the boundaries between the outside and the inside, by dictating architectural elements and spatial experiences as a resemblance of a threshold. Connecting them and separating them through creating several meeting points. Inspired by the open plan approach that was implemented by Le Corbusier taken from the social distancing aspect and looking at these thresholds as a visual and a volumetric representation that were specified according to function in the boutique hotel, whether it connects people, separates them, or both. A full catalogue of thresholds was derived from the rectangular form Le Corbusier had on the façade of the building which has a significant interplay between the outside and the inside, and therefore played with this form in the interior space creating these thresholds that were later on converted to meeting points.
