BEIRUT PHOTOGRAPHY CENTER
Inspired from the way a camera functions, the design of the Film and Photography center is based on the concept of convergence and divergence of spaces. The center is open to the public, and acts as a unique program in Beirut. The spaces include exhibition spaces, projection rooms, a large archive area, a library, and other services. The design strategy centers the spaces around a main area, the archive space, highlighting its importance in preserving the history of the country and region through visual media. The old building of Spinneys in Jnah adds to the value of the program as its historical importance and design remind us of a camera body, open to the city of Beirut with on one side the light-filtering claustra and on the other side, the curvy glass façade.
