INTUITIVE DIRECTION

Malak Yassin

This project involves a multistory apartment in the heart of Gemmayze, a lively neighborhood that was devastated by the explosion that took place on August 4th 2020. As the clients contained special cases of which contain a visually impaired man and an elderly woman, the aim was to create a space that provides direction guided by design elements such as slanted walls, textures and light; by involving these unique elements, the clients are able to identify areas of the flay based on the functionality of the design. The idea of “intuition” is illustrated throughout the design of the flat itself whereby a guided movement is present through its construction in coordination with textural elements and special features for accessibility and comfort. The challenge was to create a space that accommodated special needs clients as well as allow spaces for individual members as and their practices without taking away from the essence of “home”.
