Dionysus’ concept is derived from a combination between underground theatres and speakeasy bars. By borrowing characteristics of both worlds and adding the culinary dimension, the space created was one that included interlocking and contrasting similarities. A speakeasy bar usually has a secondary living breathing facade that conceals the true nature of the space all whilst adding a third layer between outside and inside: a buffer space. An underground theatre is a concealed performance place, an escape from creative and intellectual censorship. In fact, Dionysus is a restaurant that has a coffee stand and library at the level of the facade that hides the interior where an intellectual and spatial experience that goes beyond food itself awaits. Finally, the spatial division and the architectural language adopted were all inspired by the movement of a folding paper that has the power to generate volumes from a plane.
