BEIRUT LIBRARY
Najat Bourghol
The project is a Library that aims to pay tribute to Lebanese poetry. It is inspired by the linguistics and phonetics of the Arabic language, as well as its writing and calligraphy. The site is the Dalfa building located on Spears Street. The project includes a promenade made of stairs framed and accompanied by bookcases which hold together the poetry books available for visitors, as well as the archives protected behind translucent panels. The continuous structure, acting like an exhibition, develops vertically in the heart of the space, repeating the grid presented by the building, and defining areas and functions. This structure, in its geometry, encapsulates the spirit and feel of Arabic calligraphy, especially from the Kufic font.
