Located in Birkat Al Mawz, Oman, Falaj Al Khatmeen is an irrigation system part of 3000 still functioning systems in the country. It continues to be the area’s artery of life since its construction in the 17th century.
In response to the increasing disinterest in maintaining such valuable heritage, the project restitches the community to the Falaj through the introduction of agritourism along with youth agricultural education and housing. To tell the story of the Falaj, one has to experience every part of it.
Therefore, the project stretches itself along, not only revealing the important historical buildings and settlements, but also its strong integration within every part of a Omani’s daily life: from its utilization for drinking, past tribal control, ablution, washing, cooking, and irrigation.
