A study on the effect of the urban fabric on the pedestrian path system has shown the necessity for a “connector” in the Zeitouna Bay area.
However, a bridge is more than a crossing. It is more than a structure carrying a path across an obstacle or gap.
In the middle of an environment housing many cultures that seem very enclosed towards themselves, the bridge serves as a nest of welcoming spaces to gather, share, and bond, in order to create a sense of belonging and identity in the neighbourhoods.
It also allows people to zoom out a little bit and look at the city from different angles.
The bending roof follows the pattern of the urban fabric and folds, bends and shifts in very specific ways to block visual access with residential areas /allow it towards specific views, limit direct sunlight while still allowing light to come in, and has “nodes” for the transfer of the load.
