AN EYE ON THE CITY
Inspired by the project Kleine Rieteiland that was described as the eye on the lake, came the design of this fire station then entitled the eye on the city. The project attempts to convert the programmatical and spatial potential into a specific architectonic experience, composed of an elongated plan that consists of three floors connected by a centralized staircase defining the circulation with a play of extruding and subtracting volumes.
The Kleine Rieteiland elongated patio houses caries a tour-like structure on top with a circular window, giving it the impression of this one-eyed monster effect when viewed from the outside which is interpreted as well in the design of the fire station on the last floor used as a watch tower to observe the city hence the eye on the city. The eye is represented by the oversized circular windows that allow for specific views when looking from the inside.
