TO BE SEEN

A prosthesis aiming to create an engaging space for children to play within the city while awakening a deeper sense of community and social responsibility for the local residents. The structure was designed to create moments of discovery, hiding and revealing through a process of modulating and recombining fragments of the old existing building from which it uncoils. The proposal is an open-air urban playscape combining ramps, climbing walls and dynamic platforms for children to explore under the mindful eye of the keeper, living in a watchtower spiraling vertically from the center. While the feeling of safety often tends to be equated with enclosure, privacy and isolation from the outside, this project explores the potential of vague spaces within the urban fabric to create a sense of security in their very openness to the gaze of neighbors and pedestrians.
